Questions?
Is Pre-Pay or Pay-Later right for you?
Pre-Pay is a great way to purchase telecommunications. You pre-pay $20, $30 or $50 of call time (or larger amounts by arrangement), and every time calls are made, call charges are deducted from your balance. You are in control – no more big surprise bills at the end of the month. It’s a great budgeting tool. You can use SelectTel Pre-Pay from anyphone (must be push-button phone), anywhere at anytime. Pre-Pay is ideal for home phones and for people touring the country. See our Pre-Pay webpage for more details.
Pay-Later is a service where calls are billed to you on a monthly invoice. You must have a good credit rating and calls are invoiced to you by email and payments are made via direct debit arrangements with your bank. Pay-Later is ideal for credit-worthy business organisations.
About Pre-Pay
How does Pre-pay work?
SelectTel Pre-Pay allows you to call any number from any push-button phone, from anywhere in New Zealand. No contract or credit check is required – it works on a "pay-as-you-go" basis.
Once you have purchased your Pre-Pay connection, you simply dial either a local or toll-free access number. This number connects you to the SelectTel telephone exchange. On connection you will be asked to enter your Account number and PIN (the PIN is used to ensure greater security). Next, enter the number you wish to call. As you make calls the call cost is ‘debited’ from your account balance. You can use your SelectTel Pre-pay from work, home, your friend’s place, cellphone, hotel or motel - anywhere there is a touch-tone phone.
Can I reduce my cellphone costs?
Many cellphone users are on call plans that cost them a lot when calling during the day - up to $1.39 per minute! With SelectTel you can make mobile-to-mobile calls and mobile-to-landline calls for much less - locally and around the World - ANY time of the day, EVERY day.
Can I keep calling from my cellphone, even if cellphone pre-pay has expired?
When your cellphone prepay has expired that’s it. Oh no it isn’t! Simply call the SelectTel 0800 899 899 number from your cellphone and make that call.
Can I use Speed-dials?
To make it easier to use SelectTel Pre-Pay, you can use the Speed Dial function on your cellphone or desk phone (if available). Simply follow the instructions:
select the Speed Dial function
enter the SelectTel access number - followed by a comma
enter your Account number, followed by a comma
enter your PIN
enter into Speed Dial memory
Can I recharge my Account?
When you are talking away to friends and enjoying savings on long-distance calls, the last thing you want to do is run out of credit. Some Account types allow you to top up the credit on your Account by using your Visa or MasterCard credit card. SelectTel, we automatically advise you when funds are getting low and allow you to top up your account via your credit card. All systems are Go!
Can I have a voicemail mailbox?
Yes, some Accounts offer “SpaceMail” – a voice mailbox that travels with you so that friends and family can keep in touch. Tell your friends your Account number (but not your PIN) and by dialling the SelectTel access number, they can leave messages for you in your mailbox. When you use SelectTel you’ll be notified of messages received. You can call-forward calls from other landlines and mobiles so that you have a single mailbox for all your voicemail. Usage charges apply. You have mail!
About Pay-Later
What is Pay-Later?
Pay-Later is a service where calls are billed to you on a regular fortnightly or monthly invoice. You must have a good credit rating and calls are invoiced to you by email and payments are made via direct debit arrangements with your bank. Can I use SelectTel Pay-Later and also use services from other telecommunication companies?
Yes, you can take advantage of SelectTel services and also access other company services. SelectTel gives you the power of selection: you can have all your long-distance calls made automatically with SelectTel (that’s our ‘SelectTel Simple’ service). Alternatively, you can use SelectTel most of the time, but still take advantage of other telecommunication company ’specials’ when you want to (we call this service ‘SelectTel Select’).
